VALE KEVIN BENTLEY
It is with great sadness that the Mitcham Cricket Club acknowledges the passing of club legend Kevin Bentley (KB).
KB was a vital part of the Mitcham family, donning the Yellow & Black from the 1982/83 season through to 1996/97 season.
A true entertainer on the field and a beautiful soul off it, KB leaves behind a lasting legacy as a two-time premiership player and one of the most unique cricketers to ever represent the club.
As a hard-hitting, left-handed batsman, KB was a force to be reckoned with, blasting two memorable centuries (you would only need to ask him about either one and a story unfolded) during his career. He was equally dynamic with the ball; beginning his time at Mitcham as a strong medium-pace outswing bowler before famously transitioning into a "crafty" leg-spin bowler. His historic best figures of 9/86 cemented his place in club folklore.
KB’s talent earned him Captain status and multiple batting and bowling awards. Remarkably, he stands as one of only three players in the history of the Mitcham Cricket Club to do both, take 9 wickets in an innings and score a century (not the same game).
Beyond the boundary line, KB was an unforgettable character. He possessed a big personality, an infectious laugh, and a gift for storytelling with his mates. He approached life with the most positive outlook imaginable, injecting laughs into everything he was involved in. KB had a rare ability - he made friends the moment he met people, from all walks of life he was able to connect, building deep bonds that turned into lifelong friendships, which many at the club can attest to. Every friendship was slightly unique and personal to the next one. What a fantastic gift!
The Mitcham Cricket Club extends its deepest condolences to Karen, Sian, Cassie, Marty & extended family, friends, and former MCC teammates/friends. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
