Allan Haggar Medal.

Established in season 2002/03

β€œThe most valuable player across all of Mitcham's senior grades based on captains votes is awarded the Allan Haggar Medal. Allan Haggar gave over 50 years of service to Mitcham and the game of cricket. He joined Mitcham Cricket Club in 1954/55 and continued playing regularly until 81/82, and then occasionally until 85/86. Over these 30 seasons he accumulated about 265 games including half a dozen in the 1st XI. Allan captured about 430 wickets, made about 4400 runs and played in premierships in 1970/71 (in the 3rds) and 79/80 (in the 5ths).

He won numerous club and association batting and bowling awards, took a hat-trick, and holds the club record best bowling figures of 9/19 in 1973/74. Allan was a tireless administrator for the club serving as president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, delegate, committee member, captain and junior coach and was awarded life membership in 1971. He later became a BHRDCA umpire for 15 seasons and was a devotee of the laws of cricket, always having an answer to any question that was put to him. After retiring from umpiring Allan was a constant presence at Walker Park during cricket season supporting Mitcham and saying hello to his many friends. Allan passed away in 2016 aged 79.

An award based on captains votes was re-introduced in 2002/03 with Chris Pickett being the winner. The following season the award was named in Allan Haggar's honour.”
