David King to play Season 2026/27
The Mitcham Cricket Cub is thrilled to announce the signing of David King as Captain of the Jellis Craig 1st XI for Seasons 2026/2027 & 2027/2028!!!
David King needs little introduction in the cricket world, and is widely regarded as THE greatest player in the history of the Ringwood Cricket Club, having recently retired after a legendary 20-season career at Premier Cricket level.
Career Overview:
• Total Career Stats:
- Finished his Premier Cricket career with over 11,638 runs (22 centuries) and 321 wickets (4 x 5 wicket hauls) in the Rams' 1st XI.
• He is only the second player in Victorian Premier Cricket history to achieve the double of 10,000 runs and 300 wickets, joining the legendary Jack Ryder.
• Holds the club record for most matches with 314 total appearances.
• A two-time Jack Ryder Medalist (2019/2020 & 2024/2025), Victoria Premier Cricket’s highest individual honour.
• In the 2024-25 Season: Won his second Ryder Medal with a dominant all-round campaign, scoring 775 runs and taking 29 wickets.
• A life member and Ringwood Cricket Club 1st XI captain, King was a three-time premiership player (2007/2008, 2008/2009 & 2014/2015).
Elite Representative Honours:
• State Level:
Represented Victoria in the Sheffield Shield Competition (First Class Cap #841) in 2014/2015.
• National Level:
Australian Under-19 representative at the 2007/2008 World Cup.
Kingy joins us following his role at Mitcham Cricket Club for the past 9 seasons as Head coach of our Junior program, and has Captained the past couple of seasons as our T20 1st XI Captain, so he already has a wealth of knowledge of our young playing list.
Kingy told us he is excited and can’t wait to get started at Mitcham, and we are just as excited at having David and his young family joining us at the Mitcham Cricket Club.
